Hello all I have seen a couple of locos on the circuit now that have a 12v water pump in the tender to feed the boiler. Has anyone on here used one and what make/model of pump seem to be the best?

      Regards Matt

Here at our club in Australia they are popular with quite a few members, however at our last public day one failed due to a flat battery, i rely on an injector and axle pump ,but even then they can let you down. The electric pumps are good for 150 psi and are reliable ,just remember to have a good battery.

12v electric pressure pumps are often used in caravans. Lots for sale on ebay.

High pressure submersible caravan pumps work at a max of 32psi – wont feed a boiler.

I have an electric pump in the tender of my Columbia. It works off a small 12v battery and the working pressure is 140psi. I purchased it off eBay. The pump sits under the water tank in the tinder and the battery just behind the tank. Works very well.

                  Fizzy,

These are the pumps that I am referring to that are used in caravans and RV's. Available with pressures of 130 and 160 PSI.

They are not the same sort of pump as used in the UK. Our pumps are submersible in a 40 litre barrel. I have one fitted to my driving trolley for topping up the saddle tank on the loco but it would not have anywhere near enough power to overcome boiler pressure.

That’s the sort of pump I have in my tender under the water tank. Works very well. And I am in the U.K.

I wonder what it's like to shower under a 10 bar pump.

Just because it says Caravan Camping Boat doesn't mean it's really suitable.

Chap in our club has one on a 5 " gauge Britannia. Works a treat using the battery off a cordless drill and a pwm speed controller.

" what it's like to shower under a 10 bar pump" These are low volume pumps and no problem if you use the correct shower head.

Like the multi-purpose nozzles that you use on a garden hose. Select a single hole for a high pressure jet of water or one with many holes for a soft shower. The pressure in the water supply to the house remains high but the pressure at the nozzle discharge is lower because of the larger surface area.
