I understand the terminology reasonably well for gear dimensions DP, Mod, Addendum etc but one thing leaves me puzzled.
To my way of thinking the tooth size and hence the DP/Mod of a tooth on a bevel gear changes as you move along it towards the theoretic conical apex.
So how can various vendors describe such gears as Mod 1 or Mod 2 etc?

Or have I suffered a brain fart and missing something obvious?

According to my HPC catalogue the pitch circle is on the outer face of the gear. All calculations would be based on the widest part of the tooth.

To expand on the reply from Martin in contrast to ordinary bevel gears parallel depth bevel gears are designed using the tooth parameters at the inner face of the teeth.
