Hello,

I've just bought a Harrison Vertical milling machine. The slight snag is that it is located in Derby, whilst I am in Morayshire. The machine is about 750kg I believe.

I was wondering if anyone might like to quote me a price for uplifting the machine and delivering it to my address. My post code is IV36.

Hi Carl,

Steve Cox (landylift @AOL.co.uk 07836 736496), advertises on the Homeworkshop site. He is excellent at this and his vehicle can lift 1000kg. It probably won't be cheap, given the distance, but you can be sure it will be done well. He will also position the machine in your premises, rather than just dump it on the drive. I have no connection other than as a satisfied repeat customer.

As a cautionary tale, a friend of mine had a lathe moved by a pallet company……….they dropped it, and the ensuing insurance debacle is still ongoing.

I can recommnd Steve Cox at landylift, been to my house to deliver machines twice with no problems . 5star .

Hello Chaps,

Thank you both for your help. I was really hoping that the LandyLift chap's email and details were going to crop up. I knew that he had delivered John "Doubleboost" Mill's Harrison 140 when he got it, but I couldn't remember the name or number.

I'll be getting in touch with him. I'm going to be putting a VFD on this mill for the main motor and the 1/8th horse power feed. Also generally giving it a good go over, so it should be interesting. I've been putting a VFD on my Harrison lathe and a DRO too. I've been posting over on the Mig Welding website about that stuff.

I bought a 1250 kg mill in London and had it delivered to Glasgow for about £100 (so that I could do some work on it at my place of employment). It had to be strapped to a pallet by the seller and lifted with a forklift at both ends. If the seller can strap it onto a pallet and lift it onto the transport then you can probably get a local haulage company to accept delivery at your end and do the final section of delivery with a hiab lorry. I had a local haulier uplift mine from Glasgow and deliver it home to Fife for £100 including the hiab crane lift into my garage.

Not sure which model, but lathesdotco place the typical harrison at only half a tonne. Chester may do you a good deal, to move it!

FWIW, LandyLift also advertises on Ebay with some nice pics here.

I will also recommend Steve Cox at Landylift. He picked up the Tom Senior Mill I purchased from a gentleman in Lincoln, and delivered it to me across country in South Wales for a fair price. I was very happy with his service.
