Burrell traction flywheel bevel gear

In researching some photos of a full size burrell agricultural engine which was fitted with a spoked flywheel, I noticed that there is a bevel gear fitted to the inside face of the flywheel centre. In the picture I have it doesn't mesh with anything. What is this for please.Iin the Plaistows 3 " model the governor is belt driven from the crankshaft, but I am aware that there are a lot of deviations from full size practice in their plans for practical reasons. Is this a governor drive on the full size or is it for something else please?

Was it a crane engine at one time? They usually had a shaft that ran horizontally to a drum mounted on the smokebox. Though most crane engines had the solid flywheels. What is the engine number?

Thanks Jason, I hadn't considered that possibility, I didn't have any details, it was just a picture of the man stand which I was using to get the detail of the axle lubricators and smaller parts.

Having looked into it a bit more deeply it appears to be a picture of PB 9687 a 1920 crane engine, and although the photo looks as if its a spoked flywheel it is actually a trick of the light and it does have a solid flywheel.

Thanks for your help and the upshot is that I can ignore it for my engine thankfully!!
