I have just bought one of these magnifiers and found it excellent for the price. The lens is plastic and I am not so sure about the 5x small lens stuck to the main lens, but have found it excellent in all other ways. Low distortion, good illumination. It does have a 'Euro' 2 pin plug on it and the lead is a bit short, but for under £13.00 you should not expect more.

look on Flea-bay and enter the following ref number.

Rather nice looking- a pity the postage is more than the cost of the magnifier.

My son bought me one about five years ago, I was quite insulted at the time, however it is dead centre on my bench now and is a fantastic tool with plenty of usage from my ageing eye👴🏻

Pity about the postage, From supplier (Switzerland ?) to France it was 2.99euros.

plenty of alternatives as this stand at the Bristol show demonstrates. The most expensive was £69 the nearest in the picture which had two snakes, one for the very clear magnifier and one for the embroidery you are working on.

When I was younger I used to smile [well smirk] at older blokes with headband magnifiers, well I'm the "old bloke" now & I have an american donegan optivisor & I wouldn't [well couldn't]be without it, it has glass lenses real quality.

Proops Brothers have some very good headband type magnifiers, cheap enough to buy and try. (They do work well)

Maplin have an anglepoise style one on offer at the moment for about £25. No idea how good it is quality wise but I have a much older one over my bench vice – the height of that style gets it up to the level of the vice nicely.

I have a very similar model from Maplin bought about 3 years ago also when on special offer (Maplin seem to rotate their special offers knocking about 20% off usual price for a couple of weeks)- good quality but arms need quite a bit of space above bench and also depth back if mounted on bench – in my case causes some awkwardness with overhead cupboards at some settings
