The old oil gun topic resurfaces for Zerks. I have these on my new (to me ) lathe. They are definitely Zerks. As can be seen here . My ancient wanner grease gun fits them and thats because they are mainly for grease. My lathe manufacture firmly says they are for oil so I suppose I need a Wanner type oil gun. – anyone use one or know a better alternative ?.

Curiously I have this problem on a Pultra but one of them comes with oil hole covers as they seem to be called. I've just ordered some of thenippleshop.co.uk. RDG on ebay also do some rather large ones. I needed 1/4in BSF so those are a bit big. I went for 90 degree ones with a spring loaded lid. Like most they are so embarrassed by postage costs they don't show them until it comes to actually paying – £3.50. I suppose they think this makes us feel better about it. I'm fed up with it being hidden away.

Polly sell Reilang pump oilers with a flexible "spout" fitted with a hydraulic type connector which holds on the ball ended oilers you refer to.

Just because they look like a grease nipple does not mean you have to use grease!

You can modify a grease gun to pump oil , Guy Leutard ( hope i spelt that right !) put out an article called a breif treatise on machine oiling and you get the plans for the oil gun mods.

Basically it is to modify the clip on nozzle but i just welded up the the part that holds the grease cartridge to make it into an oil canister , remove all of the spring plunger unit that pushes on the grease and left the nozzle as set for grease – works for me !

You can get some leakage around the zerk but i find it is minimal and wasn't worth worrying about.

Polly rather shortly told me they don't do them anymore. Blackgates told me they could order me an ordinary reilang in their next order in 2 months. I have bought a hydraulic adapter from Cromwell will and see how I get on adapting a reilang I already have. Decent customer service is yet to enter this problem….
