Prepare for the Big St Albans Model Show.
27 & 28 September – that’s the last weekend in the month so easy to remember.

Bit of everything modelling not just steam trains though we will have the portable track to give the children (all ages) a ride. Lots of boats, Meccano, radio controlled trucks, steam stationary engines, traction engines, flying things, and of course coffee and cake.

      Check out last year at

Lots of other pictures on our website at

Oh, nearly forgot, the Chairman’s Tiger Tank.

If it’s as good as last year’s show (and why shouldn’t it be), it’s definitely worth a visit.

A bit of everything, and quite a bit for the youngsters.

            All go for tomorrow.
We have been busy setting up the track, stands and displays and were pleased to see a helper on the North London club stand. Thanks Mike, see you all tomorrow.

In fact we should have a ‘Spot the Mike’ competition. As well as Mike Chrisp above, our Chairman is a Mike and the exhibition organiser one time BR Willesdon Depot is also a Mike.

A very busy day and more tomorrow – still time to get along.
A couple of politicians would have come but just sent their hot air

So Malcolm (well known for steam boats and more recently IC engines) used some of the air to demonstrate a lot of little boat engines, and, yes you guessed, another hot air engine or two.hot air and small steam20250927_123643
Elsewhere Tim was running a sawbench off his 3in traction engine and a few punters were doing quality control on the burgers (look closely).Tim,sawbench,burgers20250927_124506

Went to the show yesterday, and it’s certainly a varied show with much to interest the youngsters.  The  society’s commitment to the event being plainly evident from the organisational aspect.  However, it was a little disappointing to see it almost identical to last years event, with some exhibits looking like they’d just been plucked from storage and not dusted off.  Having said that, the exhibitors were more than happy to talk about their models.

A big shout-out to the gent with the Enigma machine built from Meccano.  He explained how it worked much clearer than some of the established historians do.

Walking around the Meccano displays, I heard a couple of mentions of “Lego Technic” being another interesting thing to exhibit (if any members indulge).  Talking of Meccano, I think they’ve clearly lost it with their 21st century plastic kits.
