      When you are re-comissioning your lathe and its a vintage version remember that some of the old machines use a for of cast iron shell which has natural graphite in them these are usually used with chrome plated steel . These bearings are really good . One thing to remember is that most old lathes may have been in a shed and buried or not used and kept oiled up. These lathes even though they can turn and seem ok can get sticky or stuck when first run. It is always best to run the slowly with plenty of oil first. I hope this is useful
