After a few hiccups in the deal for the mill drill I finally got it into my workshop yesterday a big learning curve ahead but with the encouraging help I got when I asked for advice in a previous thread I am going to enjoy it.

The machine came with no pulley cover on it, any ideas where I might get one or how to get around it?It came with a Bison screw and cam operated vice but the fixed jaw was missing I contacted a few companies who sell this vice they said the replacement jaw would be £80 ridiculous price I think.

Weird the things people take off. You aren't going to find a replacement jaw lying round so start thinking about making one.

A guard can be a bit of aluminium sheet bent round. No need for a top or back.

I've used gauge plate for vice jaws before, many places sell it in a range of sizes.

It should not be too difficult to knock up a mould to fabricate a glass fibre cover?

Some sheet metal from some old white ware, or electronic gear is enough to make a pulley guard.

Thanks for replies. Will try the guage plate for vice jaws how were they tempered after you modified them ?I took the drill chuck off the mill tonite its on an R8 taper I noticed that the taper could spin around in other words the slot is not engaged in anything. On closer inspection I noticed there is a threaded hole a couple of inches from bottom of spindle is what should be in this hole what engages in the slot?

Yes, there is normally a pin just to stop the collet spinning as you tighten the drawbar. However some people can either be too dumb to align it and damage the collet, or somehow get the collet to spin with a heavy cut and jam against the pin. So ok to leave it out.
