Computer advice needed

I’m a bit of a Dinosaur when it come to computers — I can just about drive one but know little of the ins & outs !

Looking to buy some new, probably all-in-one units running Windows 11 for our business and these days you do not get any software everything seems to be on this 365 hire scheme — Apple Mac being an exception.

However I have a disc copy of Office Professional 2007 I purchased back then the question is will this run on Windows 11 ?   I do have a disc drive on a usb connector — todays PC’s don’t have disc drives etc.

Have a look at libre office, it’s free and handles all the Microsoft docs I’ve thrown at it

Even better seems to be OnlyOffice

Seems to be compatible with other MS Office document formats, is free, ahd its UI is virtually identical to Microsoft365.

Agreed,  I’ve used LibreOffice for years and never had any problems.  Occasionally MS will introduce a new feature that won’t work to international standards but LibreOffice soon adds that capability.  I certainly would not install a 20 year old piece of software, even if it works you may well have security issues (Unless you run Linux OS 🙂 ).

I wouldn’t consider all in one computers, separate parts are easier to upgrade when necessary.

I bought a new Windows 11Pro PC a little while ago, specifically from Mesh Computers.
I came up with a slightly customised spec, based on one of their standard builds, and save the quote on their website.

A little while later, I had a call from them to discuss the possible order; the tech at their end suggested I could probably save some money with a lower spec graphics card, as I wasn’t into gaming.
He also recommended a slightly tower cheaper case than I’d picked.
We had a sensible discussion, where I explained the reasons for that card, based around AI noise reduction and masking, for a specific photo processing package; the image is processed by the GPU on the graphics card, as it’s more suited to that type of number crunching.
He took details of the program, DxO Optics Photolab, and concurred I’d probably made the best choice.

It was refreshing to see a knowledgeable retailer who was genuinely trying to save me some money.

The PC arrived promptly, particularly considering it is a one off build, at a good price.

I also use Libre office, with Thunderbird for eMails.
It’s possible to get a Microsoft office single installation for a one-off price, which makes it a lot cheaper than 365, but I went with Libre anyway.
