I've also just got hold of a used Omron v1000 – the manual takes a bit of ploughing through to find the important bits (understatement!).
One thing I have found is that it is not straightforward to change the motor rotation using the keypad while in normal operating mode – you have to go into setup mode and change the relevant parameter. That means that you will definitely want to add some control wiring at some point – there is a diagram on p52 which shows all the control connections. It shows all the possible connections you can make and you won't want or need them all.
Just to complicate matters, it looks like there are two methods of wiring on/off/reverse, called 2 wire and 3 wire respectively. The diagram on p52 shows the two wire method, which requires 2 latching switches wired to S1 to SC and S2 to SC. S1 gives Fwd on and off, S2 gives Rev on and off.
The 3 wire method is shown at the bottom of p43, and requires 2 momentary switches wired to S1 and S2 to give Fwd and Rev, and a latching switch wired to S5. As for the 2 wire method, the remaining terminal on each switch is taken to SC.
All the above is as I understand it – if there is someone more familiar with this model vfd I hope they will correct any mistakes in what I've written.
