        Hello!

As a complete beginner, I thought I'd say hello – just purchased a chinese (don't hate me!) mini lathe (as a kit it seems, after looking at the finish! Lathe of Thesius, here we come) for a back bedroom… and immediately thinking I'm going to need a small mill or adopt a Heath Robinson approach to milling on the lathe.

Anyone have any recommendations for a used manual mill that can actually be hauled up stairs, rather than requiring pulleys and cranes?

And no, a 1/16th scale Bridgeport is not what I had in mind! 😀

Hi Tom welcome to the forum, What are you interested in. I bought a Chester 16V mill which i am very happy with and you could easily remove the head, 2 bolts and carry it up stairs. Also not to far from you to go and have a look which I would recomend.

          David

            Thanks David,

That's actually a fair bit cheaper than I was expecting for a new mill (even a re-badged chinese-sourced one, and looks like something to check out.

Is there anything similar in the second hand market (even for the same amount, up to 800-1000 in the same size range, but of better quality?

If not, that sounds like a nice start!

(Of course, tooling will likely be the main cost)
