      Hello

Sorry I can't seem to find an 'introduction / hello' section – I am a complete novice at Model Engineering but thought I would have a go at creating a 'step by step' of my efforts of building the 'Stuart Victoria' mill engine in the hope of some advice from other members along the way. Would that be ok?

I can see a section called 'Work In Progress and completed items photos' – would that be the right place to start the thread? I am not a great Forum or Computer user..

Thanks – I am 53, retired early and live in Abergavenny, South Wales, anyone local on here – it would be great to hear from you…

      Ta very much.

      Allan.

Thats would be the ideal place, its part of the forum that does not get used enough and it will be good to see some actual projects on this forum.

Welcome Allan to the forum. There is indeed a great deal of talent and knowledge kicking around herein. So don't hang back, if you don't know, ask, someone will know. And probably most importantly, there will be people reading this forum who will have the same or similar problem but who for whatever reason dare not/ do not know how to/cannot formulate the question to, ask for help and who will then enjoy and learn as well.

I'm in West Cumbria which is hardly local to South Wales. Indeed, West Cumbria is hardly local to anywhere, apart from the sheep that is.

            Good luck, and enjoy.

            Regards,

            Peter G. Shaw

              Welcome Allan

I can only echo Peter's comments as I have asked loads of questions (some dumb) since becoming a newbie and joining here in 2009 and folk have been so helpful

                      Hi Allan,

Welcome to the forum; no problem asking questions. There are no dumb questions, only dumb answers.

I'm not local to you, although I do know Abergavenny from walking around it looking for tea shops on rainy days when we couldn't fly gliders at Talgarth. If I recall correctly there was a model shop on the way in from Talgarth; is it still there?

How on earth do you retire early? I'm 56 and it looks like I've got at least another 10 years slog to go. sad

                      Regards,

                      Andrew

One should not retire, perhaps a change from regular payed work, to doing "work" for you'r self, you'll soon wonder how you ever had time to work for anyone else. Welcome from New Zealand. Ian S C

Welcome as you will see we are a friendly bunch, do occasionally take the mick, think there is an ME club near you, try going onto the SMEE web site
Good luck and enjoy. I have to say that these days I sometimes wonder how I had time to go to work.
We will all look forward to hearing about your projects.
If you can manage it come to the Thornbury Exhibition on 16th 17th & 18th of this month and make yourself known, I am usually the old git demonstrating a mini lathe to kids and older ones and getting them to use it. on the club stand. there is a half page advert in the current ME issue.
