Hi all, I was given a Boxford shaper mk2 back in December and I’m giving it a birthday.

I’ve bought new belts as per what was fitted. The primary is very snug but I did need to replace the motor drive pulley, which was a slightly different size, which probably explains some of the snugness.

However the secondary is too short to fit. The new belt is 10mm shorter than the old. I guess the old one has perhaps stretched a little. I recall the old belt was very difficult to get off. The oilite bushings on the secondary pulley were also worn, perhaps pointing to an over tight belt.

So I’ve measured up for a longer secondary. But it got me wondering, were the wrong belts fitted or is something else amiss? Can any owners out there check and report back what size belts they have fitted?

I can’t get at mine at the moment, and the top belt isn’t marked.
However, the old Boxford spares site did have some scans of the blueprints.

Brilliant, thanks very much. That confirms my belt numbers are correct. It’s just occurred to me that there is an eccentric on the driver gear shaft for adjusting the backlash. Adjusted the wrong way would necessitate a longer belt.

As an aside do you have any other drawings from the old spares site. I was able to recover one from the wayback machine internet archive but no more. If anyone has any others could they share them so they not lost forever? I read that Boxford claim the drawings were lost in a fire.

There’s quite a bit of shaper related stuff at this site too
