Bantam lathe

Hello there just bought a bantam 1600 lathe with 2 speed motor I need a inverter to the machine but does any know if I can use the origal switch gear and were the best place to buy a inverter thanks Scott

I have an inverter that might do the job, I bought it for my Bantam but eventually fitted a single phase motor so I don't need it anymore

Scott, I have a Bantam 1600 and it runs on an Transwave, Manufactured by Power Capacitors. I got it just to be sure the switchgear all worked and it does.

Have had no problems with it to date. My one has a max. of 2.2Kw per motor. You have to turn a knob to keep the setting on a dial within the 380 – 430 range. It's no big deal and your ear will tell you when it's running happily even without checking the dial. Once set for average loading work you really only have to change it if you change out of the average/mid speed ranges.

Nice lathe. I got the rear mounted parting-off kit from RDG for mine and it works a treat . I can part off 15 thou washers with it no problem AND you get a nice little slotted base with it as well which can be handy since the Bantam has a plain top on the cross-slide.

You can't run a two speed motor off a standard inverter because you canot change it from star to delta.

A transway CONVERTER or rotary converter will do.

There are some *modified* 240 v in 440 v out inverters on the market but AFAIK these are not CE certified.

I run my bantam on an inverter and it has enough speeds for what i do. i only find you want 2k rpm when running small brass items. I just crank the Hz up to 75. On light duty its fine.

It depends on which inverter you have? You could switch it to run high and low as well as have the speed control pot wired in.
