Hi. I am in need of a ba2 castellated locking nut for the motion on my b1 locomotive. I could make one or two, but in the interest of time saving and the fact it’s cold in the workshop can I buy these nuts from any supplier. Thanks

I looked at that site, Michael, but does it sell small numbers to private buyers? It looks trade-only, wanting 2000, not 2.

I have no knowledge of that, Nigel … I was mainly pointing-out that the same item might go by various names.

Many suppliers are willing to sell small quantities to the public, at a price reflecting the paperwork, handling and postage. It is worth trying contacting them to find out.

Spaulding Fasteners is a mame that just came into my mind.

According to my (limited) resources, a hexagon nut with slots across one end is more often called 'slotted', while if the slotted end is also reduced in diameter and round, it is 'castellated'. The two terms are often used less carefully, though. Both styles tend to have more depth than a modern plain nut. Because they are a bit on the small side for split pins, adjacent nuts are often wired together instead.

                            Cheers, Tim

You might have posted in jest, but just this last week I needed a thermal fuse. It was considerably cheaper to buy 10 off, than a single item from ebay sellers. I did think I might need a second (as I was intending to solder it in place) but all went well and now I have nine on stock. It did not appear to be just the shipping costs involved, either.
