went to NT Anglesey abbey in Cambridgeshire yesterday.
had a look around the second-hand books shop and noticed a couple of bound set of Model Engineer magazine from I think from 1970’s.
I didn’t buy them but they have been there for a few weeks in case anyone wants them.

They are worth picking up. I have two books of bound volumes from 1977 or so and have read and reread them countless times. Many articles by GH Thomas and the like. But also the adverts and letters to the editor are a fascinating glimpse into a bygone era.

Sometime back I was given some old ME mags, and I was amused by the formal way in which ‘letters to the Editor’ were written.

Yes it was a different world for sure. The tail end of the “gentleman engineers” who wore collar and tie under their dustcoat at “the works”.

I have four sets of bound copies of the Model Engineer put aside for recycling on Tuesday. All magazines appear to be worthless but I will put them in the Classified Ads and see what happens.
