I am looking at whether to move to a 3phase smart meter to be able to use tariffs such as Octopus Agile rather than variable Rate tariffs.  What are peoples experience.

      Thanks,

      Colin

Won’t you need a 3 phase supply too?

I have had a 3ph smart meter for about 3 years now. Works just the same as before except they don’t come and read it!

I only use 3ph for the workshop, no car charging or night tariffs etc.

If you have/want solar input you will need a smart meter too.

Most domestic properties can draw 60 or more Amps on single phase UK supply.

7kW single phase EV EVSEs are the maximum that can be fitted to a single phase supply, I think.  Three phase EVSEs are available up to 21kW but many cars are limited to 9 or 11kW by the on-board chargers.

Extra standing charges, for three phase meters, may make their use uneconomical for a domestic installations.  Most Octopus Agile users are on a single phase supply.

We have two supplies, I x 230 volt monophase for the house and a triphase 400 volt supply to the barn/workshop.

Not that have any use for triphase atm, it was going to be mega-euros to remove triphase from the barn and fit a 230 volt supply when we moved in.

Both have “smart” meters called Linky no problems at all.

I just tap off neutral and any phase to get 230 volts.

They transmit to a local hub down the power lines, and then use a central phone system to report the results to Big EDF.
