The sidewinder is inherently locking because the blade can only move if the two parts of the handle separate. So if the body is held together it must latch together. Arguable whether that counts as a safety thing, I’ve had normal sprung blade knives fold over on me a time or three, or a lock. Depends whether the rules say separate latching mechanism or simple positive hold when in use.
Much easier on the fingernails when it comes to opening than the usual spring held style.
