I have used my beloved ML7 for many years without so much as a vibration – it was a sad day when i put it up for auction due to my new arrival of an L5….it fetched a very good price, buyer turned up and we set her running, worst bloody thump and ratle imaginable, to which I says 'it never did that before'…only me!!!

Good choice of lathe getting an L5 though had my 1963 L5 for nearly 30 yrs and done god knows how many jobs on it and its never missed a beat…mind you now ive said that…

Sounds like the anti-vibration mountings on the motor, those 8 sided rubber things.

Can you still get them, at least in the UK ?

It's called Murphy's law here.

I think the rubber bushes are available in NZ, but it should not be impossible to carve out some rubber. I'v got 4 or 5 1/4, 1/3, and 1/2 hp motors with this sort of mounting, must have a look at them, some of those mountings are at least 60 year old.

I had a local rubber moulder (Reading, Berkshire) reinstate new material after one such failure.
