        Not this one !

Arthritis overtaken my ability to use a manual can opener so this 'one touch' the obvious solution.

Brand new, out of box, new batteries inserted, press button………….nothing.

Close look reveals +ve teat on both batteries 0.030" short of connection.

Of course, no problem to cure for 'us' but I wonder how many have been returned.

So was it a battery problem or the can opener?

batteries now seem to have a shorter +ve teat than they used to

I have found this problem to be more apparent with Duracell batteries. A number of my granddaughters toys will not work with Duracells but work fine with other makes. Duracell batteries have a much shorter +ve terminal than other major brands

The battery teat is guided into a slot which has the +ve plate ready for the battery end to make contact with it.

No AA battery I have has a long enough teat to reach the fixed plate.

The -ve contact is the spring pushing the battery into place hard up against the slot.

It was easy enough for me to build the two +ve fixed plates up with 0.040" of solder but 'we' are not the

              'average' consumer.

              Device works really well.

                Been there, done that !!

There is a lot to be said for cans with ring pulls. Yes I know they cost a bit more [dont see why this should be, but it is ] I got a pain-in-my-arse trying to open cans of anything long ago [I wish I could join things together like they do ] so now I tend to buy just ring pull tins.

This may be part of what they call "Progress"cheeky

You've just touched another 'rant' I have.

Only last week I dropped a can of Carling lager as I was taking it out of the 'fridge'.

A millisecond later it was passing my ear on the way to the ceiling , propelled by a jet of Carling coming out of the ring pull area.

As confirmed by the 'air accident ' investigation afterwards.

My do they have that ring pull area controlled to fine ' just ok' limits.

It always seems to be touch and go whether the ring pull opens the can or my finger nail lifts from my finger, we have a gadget for ring pulls but I never remember to use it.sad

How come you don't end up with just the ring pull dangling from your finger?

Serves you right for drinking fizzy lager instead of nice warm, flat beer!

What I did find out, dried lager makes a good non-slip floor finish.
