Wow. I have noticed a lot of new members signing in recently!

      Lockdown blues? Who Knows ?

It is great to see a lot of new members signing in after being consigned to their sheds and workshops.

Welcome to all the new members. So please enjoy this website where no question is too trivial.

We were all beginners once .

I have noticed that model engineering mags in, for example smiths, are not around for long, either more are being bought or less produced. The 2 may be connected?

Yes, like Danny I too noticed the sudden influx yesterday or the day before, and like Danny, please enjoy your time with us.

Now, just to set the ball rolling, here is one of the first questions I had to ask as a newbie:

To a colleague at work: " What is milling, and what is a milling machine?"

Colleague: "In a lathe the work revolves against the cutting tool, whilst in a milling machine, the cutting tool revolves against the (stationary) work."

That shows how little I knew back then. (Mind you, I'm not sure I've progressed much further!)

We all have to start somewhere. If someone will mentor us and provide, advice, help and possibly face to face demonstration, with hands on experience, we are very fortunate.

This is the best way of learning.

The danger is of becoming overconfident , before sufficient experience has been gained.

O K, we all learn by slightly overstepping the limits of our knowledge, that is learning.

The important thing is to paddle before embarking on a cross channel swim.

None of us know all about everything.

The more experienced, in any sphere, should make the incomers welcome and try to pass on their knowledge and skills to them..

Although there have been a few more than usual you may have looked at the forum after Neil went through the last two weeks worth and welcomed each one so a lot of threads from new members came to the top of the list.
