Just been reading the price of stamps is to increase 1st class by 6p to 76p and 2nd by 4p to 65p. Who uses 1st class I don't and when one thinks about it if no one used 1st the post office would have to have a rethink wink

The receiving record for 2nd class postage is simply not good enough, a lot of mail goes missing. There is no way of proving it of course, but I suspect it is given very low priority, hence the bad service.

If you are sending something that stands a chance of getting to it's destination on time, then 1st class is how it should go. The other alternatives include electronic mail [email] and texting

It is I'm afraid just another cost that increases. The PO have given it their thoughts and added to the cost!

The cost increase is due to the improved security side of things, I was at 1 of the printers the other week servicing the equipment.

I send everything first class. The difference in cost is negligible. It's still cheap at the price.

                I'm against the class system.

I find it strange to think a business would go to the trouble of sorting mail and then purposely delay its delivery.

I live in East Sussex and my eldest daughter lives north of Wigan in Lancashire, if I post anything to her using first class it inevitably takes five working days to reach her, complaints to Post Office are useless they never explain why there is a problem. We now only use second class and you guessed it the letters also take five working days to reach her. Can we go back to the old times when we only had one class of delivery and two deliveries a day and invariably letters could reach their destination the next working day wherever they were sent to.

That's a bargain. Here in France it's 81p second class and 97p first class at the current exchange rate.

While we're on weird postal stuff The Donald is pulling out of the International Postal agreement this year

So the old system of 20p from China and 20 dollars from the USA may be finished by the end of the year

Last time they put the price up I went and bought a big batch 1st and 2nd. Still valid after the increase, but for a 1p increase it's probably not worth the hassle

Thought the US Postal Service had stopped sending mail to the UK anyway

How does that work in the UK? Are stamps actually printed with a price or are they (as here, Canada) simply generic stamps with no price on them that, once purchased, are valid for all time regardless of future increases?

                              (Just "local" stamps of course).

Our club stopped sending out membership cards by mail a few years ago because it was quite a high proportion of the membership fee. A few people still send and SAE but most pick them up at the meetings. Then last year we gave up out printed monthly magazine as the postage was half the cost.
