Hi Folks,

Does any body have a picture of a completed CES level please. I have had the c.i. casting for the last 30 odd years and thought I might have ago at machining it. I could probably buy the drawings from CES but a picture will be sufficient to see if it differs from a standard M&W or Starrett machinists level.

I have one that I made many years ago.

If you PM with an E mall address, I'll take a picture or two and send them over

By your standards, the workmanship will be a bit rough.

But with the most sensitive vial that was supplied, it functions quite well.

Have just found it and sent details, MEW 297 pp16- 22 to Rod.

His problem may be finding a sensitive enough vial. But he has a couple of pictures and the drawing as a starting point.

Hopefully, next year will be one where we shall be able to attend shows and meet up!

I made a "precision" level based on the article but used two pieces of aluminium instead of the casting. I had bought a vial sometime back direct from China. The article spurred me into making use of it. It is so sensitive that I am thinking that the vial is just a parallel piece of glass tube. It is impossible to tell how good a vial is because a proper one is ground internally rather than being a piece of bent tube as in simple builders levels.
