Hi…. New Here.

I'm trying to build a model from Air dry Clay, but I want to add a small solar panel and an LED light inside so it lights up at night.

I've soldered LED strips in the past so i'm not a complete idiot. But i've never used any solar panels. Is it staightforward or can you buy kits for a 1-2-3 job?

The peice will be an external ornament, just incase anyone was wondering.

Best to buy a cheap garden ornament and dissect it. You will need the simple but clever circuit that ensures the battery charges in the day and also 'bucks' the voltage high enough to operate the LED at night.

Waterproof teh switch well – they usually fail in a season due to water ingress.

Hi Carl,
I agree with Neil that using the parts from a solar garden light will be the cheapest solution. You will not be able to use a string of LEDs as the simple boost regulator is only designed to drive one LED. One of the pound shops (I think Pound World.) sell solar fence lights that are easy to dismantle. I have bought a number of these as a cheap source of button NiMh cells to repair plug in timers which seem to fail with the cell going open circuit.
