I am looking for a source of point motors for 7 1/4 garden railways

I can provide all electrical elements but need to find a linear actuator, motor

can anyone help. 24 V prefereably

Technobots do some linear actuators in kit form – link – they are designed for 3-6volt but could be run from 24v via a dropper resistor or other suitable volatge "adaptor". The idea is very simple and you could make something similar quite easily using a bigger and better motor for your application.

No connection with Technobots except as a satisfied customer.

I have just completed a 7¼ " guage point motor using a remote door locking kit bought on ebay. I used the 4 actuators in parallel (mechanically) to get the necessary push. Runs off 12v with the advantage of remote contol available through the keyfobs supplied – all for about £25.

Previously I have used a windscreen wiper motor which has a worm drive to give more effective locking.

A motor with a reasonally low speed out put, driving a threaded rod with a nut on it to provide movement, and micro switching to control travel. Could be a wiper motor, with the shaft extended, that's quite easy, I did it to fit a sproket on the motor I use to power the table on my vertical milling machine, speed adjusted with resistors.
