When i returned from holiday yesterday I found this tool ( and two similar ones) on my doorstep.

Can anyone tell me what they are used for.

Used many things like these they are inspection or machining jigs for difficult to hold parts.

I don’t know but they look similar to what I have in mind to make to drill the holes In the drillpress to convert ml7 gears to fit the ml4 lathe

The bit with the red handle is a pretty standard toggle clamp:

Available from Axminster for the princely sum of £6.96. The OP's version is in use on some kind of fixture no idea what that might be for!

Salvage the base plate and the clamp. Bin the rest.

Not sure about the rest,but the clamps are well wort saving [or well wort the money[I have several of these in my workshop,and they are seldom idle. Until you start using them,you wont know what you,ve been missing.!

As the attachment looks like the back of an instrument or clock I suggest it was just that and it held the front plate for some machining operation, possibly modifying a small batch outside of the main production.
