I was lucky enough to acquire an SSE20 ER16 'Indexa' collet chuck a while back – which is very nicely (Swiss) made. However, my main intended use for it – is as part of a work holding/indexing device – rather than as a long reach milling chuck.
There is a screwed 'back-stop' inside the chuck – that can be screwed in and out quite freely but not (at least on my chuck) apparently removed. Used for work holding – this 'stop' is a problem – as it limits the length of material I can hold.
My question is this – does anyone know if these screw 'stops' are supposed to come out normally or are they retained in some way. Is my stop damaged or just 'as made' ?
I don't want to damage such a nice bit of tooling if it's supposed to be this way. Of course – getting the set screw out may be quite a problem anyway…
