        Hi

Can any one help please I have a electrical fault on the feed control module of my milling machine and am trying to find out the value of the resistor which has burnt out, the control module is a "ERSKINE Rev4 PD-1114-03-B" control box (on a Bridgeport series 1 mill) which controls the table longitudinal feed.

if any one has a close up photo, or a circuit diagram of this its much appreciated…

Here is the crunch all the manuals available that i can find on line, or have got copies of all show the American version which have different circuits.. so it is the English version i am after.

I will paste a photo a bit later

        Thanks Mark

I have nice, re-drawn, versions in pdf format which I can send if you PM me with your E-Mail address.

Many thanks are due to fellow forum members John and Ken who kindly supplied me with photo copies of original Erskine data and circuit diagrams just before Christmas which I was able to re-draw and re-dtp into native digital files which print out cleanly.

Thanks for your reply, my email is

            Many thanks Mark

For any one interested the resistor in question is R6, which was damaged when a fault occurred with the micro switches and one was effectively welded / stuck, so both were being operated at same time. or thats my conclusion, as to the cause, erskine pcb front 2.jpg

                          Hi Paul

No problem but I'll need an E-Mail address to send the data to.

Alternatively you could sign up with the Bridgeport Yahoo Group and download it from the files section there.

                          Dave

E-Mail and attachments are on their way.

                                      Hi Clive,

I know it has been a while this thread started. I wondered if you could also help me with the circuit diagram for the Erskine. My board I think is an older type (PD/1114/01/01/B Issue 3), but I'm sure all of them should operate in a fairly similar way. I've looked and asked everywhere and nobody can help me.

I bought a Series 1 mill, with the powerfeed not working. Thank in advance.

                                      Kind regards,

                                      Leon

May not be the circuit board. When my unit stopped working it turned out that the motor commutator needed cleaning.

                                          PM sent re data.

Agree with Andrew that problem could well be motor commutator dirty and / or worn out brushes. If you do decide to investigate inside be prepared for copious quantities of finely divided carbon dust. Judging by the quantity inside the one on mine I'd be unsurprised to discover that it had worn out two sets of brushes without intermediate cleaning!

Do wear disposable gloves because the dust is so fine it's near impossible to get your hands completely clean. Even after three or four goes. The mess in the sink will not improve popularity with the distaff side either. You also won't be impressed next time you have to clean out the U bend. I know significant amounts hang in there for 3 years!

Tip :- decent brand hair shampoo is much better than Swarfega and the other mechanics hand cleaners for shifting this sort of thing.

                                              Hi

I am new here, and what led me here is the infamous Resistor R6 on the Erskine PD-1114-03-B Rev.4 on my Bridgeport.
As what have happened to many other here my resistor burned up. when i was using it i smelled something burnt,I stopped and went for lunch and when i came back the feed motors did not work anymore

I opened the Erskine drive and saw R6 bascily in 2 pieces.
I started Googling and that’s how i ended up here.

I want to keep my Bridgeport as original as possible and i’m looking for help to fix it hopefully.

I saw that Clive here had made a circuit diagram and wonder if you can share it with me as well ?

Also if any other here as any tips of what to check before i fix the drive, i saw some comment about cleaning the commutator

                                              Thanks in advance
