      Hi,

      I have recently aquired a 2018 Axminster SX2 Mini Mill and have added a Round LED Ligh to the Spindle Top. I would like to power this via the machines 12vdc Supply rather then having another external power supply. Can anyone suggest a safe take off point on the PCB that I can do this with out damaging any of the boards in the process? I beleive J1 on the main PCB Terminals 1 &2 have a 12vdc output but dont want to damage anything if this output is sensitive etc?

          Hi first check the output of the power supply and the rating of the led you want to use.There may not be spare capacity. I would be wary, for what a small 240 to 12v transformer would cost plus a small rectifier and smoothing condenser I would start from scratch. Or plan B, use a redundant power supply form almost anything or an old battery charger( this may need a bit of smoothing) that gives 12v dc.

            Hi Noel,

            Thanks, I am bit weary of connecting anything to the mills PCB's in case of any issues etc. I'll go with a seprate plug in 12vdc to power the LED thus removing any risk to the Mills PCB's. These are avaliable easily from ebay etc. The LED is an SMD 60mm rated at 12v-24v Angle Eye for Automotive so is going be a low wattage rating pos 40ma but havent checked this, fits great on the Mill

              I concur, better to blow a cheap PSU than your milling machine PCB.

                Thanks Jon, yer I think the Boards on the SX2 can fail if you play with them not knowing the in depth electronics of them
