A question for the distinguished and very knowledgable members of this forum.

If you had a choice to make would you chose for precision model engineering work a Schaublim 102VM or a Hardinge (HLV I believe or similar) ?

      Thanks and best regards. Keith

Well I visited another modeler last week who has an HV, an HLV and a 102 and its the HLV that gets used the most. Also has a M300 for heavy jobs.

Also know someone else who opted to get an HLV though still also has their eye on a 102 as well as the tailstock is a bit heavy to move on the HLV

They are quite different types of lathe……the Schaublin is an instrument lathe and is intended for small precise components that don't need any threading….the Hardinge is a more general piece of equipement that can carry out screwcutting tasks…..

Hardinge are superb and very versatile but Schaublin are more conservative in design and, for me, less interesting if you wish to make complex components. Also, Schaublin does'nt come cheap, or even competitive.
