      Hi there
      A few questions:
1)I have been offered a complete kit that has the chassis partly (running) assembled, but nother else pot together.. Does anyone know what a fair price would be?
      2) What if any, are the problems. I have heard there are some issues, but these can be sorted out if you have a workshop.
      3) Are there any articles in magazines?
      Regards
      Adrian

I understand that a few people have made good engines out of these kits but only after a lot of extra work .

Neville was more than a bit upset by problems people had with the 5 " version of the Winson 1400 . Everyone assumed ( and its possible that some people were led to believe) that the Winson one was a kit version of his design .

Numerous problems were referred to him which he tried to resolve but when in the end he was actually able to examine an engine in detail he decided to have no more to do with them .

There are issues but these can be resolved if you have a workshop – this phrase appears ( with variations ) in most adverts for part built kits . Draw your own conclusions .

                Hi Mike, Phil and Russell

Thanks for the information. The Model engineering clearing house appears to be a mine of information. I will start to read through the threads.

                Kind regards

                Adrian

I would say avoid it like the plague, unless you are prepared to do quite a lot of remedial work to it. That is not to say that it may be a good one but having had dealings in the past with a few winson kits most of which have been runners. These were sold as put it together with a screwdriver on the kitchen table. No they weren't valves, pistons cylinders needed work, the bodywork left a lot to be desired too! As they say buyer beware.

                    Hi Mark

                    Thanks for you response.

From the feedback I have received, I don't think I will proceed unless I could get it for a very low price and even them I would have a boiler test before parting with any cash.

                    Regards

                    Adrian
