You haven't seen the other side wink 2 I'll just leave it to your imagination or perhaps its to hide my embarrassment blush. One of the channels was a bit tight so needed milling out a bit, oops, measure twice cut once. How many times do I have to tell myself that.

      Cheers

The swarm was up in the carton this morning, nicely clustered. I had already prepared a hive and lifted the carton over to it and using the crown board as a ramp put the carton against it and started encouraging the bees to climb up into the hive. As it was morning and they were still a bit cold from overnight they were slow to start so I was cupping hand fulls and placing them on top of the combs. All of a sudden they made their minds up and decided, 'Yes' we like this box and they put their tails up and opened their Nasonov glands and they marched in. The Nasonov gland gives off a pheromone that calls all the bees to come to this place. 15 mins. later I put the crown board on the hive and then the lid and went to work. At dinnertime they were busy flying in and out doing orientation flights to recognise their new home.

As appears the norm now, cyber companies don't tell their users of passwords being stolen until they are forced to do so!

I wonder what would make them behave in a responsible manner.

Monopolies can be/are bad. Delete appropriate.

Went to Cowells Small Machine Tools in Colchester to pick up my new ME lathe.

Had a good chat with Colin and set the world to rights.

Can't wait to get home tomorrow to unpack the machine, get set-up and do some turning.

Is Dobbie your Austin 7? If so I would be interested in your reasons for MOTing it. I have a 1950s bike which no longer needs an MOT but I have debated whether to still have one as an unbiased check on its roadworthiness.

Put the new banjo on the DB7 lathe and fiddled around. Main goal was achieved in reversing the lead screw rotation but by modging about with the gears got the minimum feed rate down from 0.1mm/rev to 0.0667mm/rev cutting away from the chuck. With a round nosed tool this gave a nice finish on steel and a near mirror finish on brass.

                        Well chuffed as they say.

                        Cheers

Is there a cutoff age for MOTs? Perhaps if I wait ling enough my 1967 Honda S800 (car) will make it back on to the road without the palava of trying to get it to meet current requirements? That's an exciting development! I'd have to move back to the UK first, mind.

I had to trust my own capabilities today. The photo is the setup for drilling and then line boring before reaming a 15mm hole in a clutch housing for a vintage car. The casting cost well over £200, so a mistake was unthinkable. The fixture for holding the casting was a thick piece of multiply bolted to the cross slide of the BOXFORD lathe. The drills and reamer used all had to have extension pieces welded to them to increase their length. The line boring tool was a special made for the purpose and made out of some hex bar (it was in stock) approx 13mm over the points. Glad to report that all went well.

Vehicles in the UK no longer need an MOT if made before, I think, 1959. Me thinks – "There is no such thing as a free lunch"

It always struck me that the 800cc Honda sports car was a sweet little car.

'Dobbie' is the name used for the Fiat Dobló,

It carries all the spare parts, material etc.

Haven't decided on a name for the Austin Seven yet, so ideas welcome.

All cars up to 1960 are now exempt from MOT, but I will have my two Austins done when ready.

I think it will be a good idea to have someone not connected with the renovation having a look first time round, to find any 'unseen' problems.

Geoff – Office time to finish drawer organising – yes I know what I said previously, but this IS final! Except . . .

Funny we have got onto MOTs. Must phone garage before walking 3 miles to town and pick up Nippa. That's the manufacturer's name and compared to the Landy it is very nippy on just 850cc. Back seat will be coming out next week to heave in a lot of stuff as the 'Shed' is out of action.

Hi, today my collet chuck arrived in the post, so set to and found a suitable piece of steel to make a backplate to fix it to my Warco lathe. First set it up on my Boxford to turn the recess for fitting it to my Warco. Having got the backplate fitted, I then had to turn the recess for the collect chuck. I choose what I though would be a suitable tool to cut away the bulk of metal, but as I got closer to the depth that I wanted the backplate started to look a bit like a badly scored brack disc, even touching the tool up on the grindstone didn;t seem to improved matters and it was then that I though I may have picked up a bad bit of plate. I then dicided to use the tool for the one that I intended to finish with and to my pleasent suprise it turned from a badly looking scored brake disc to the finish in the poto below in just two passes, on the first pass it greatly inproved and then on the second pass I decided that it would do.

                                                  backplate.jpg

Funny how a different tool can make a differance even though they both had a good edge. just have to finish the projection to size to fit the collet chuck, but ran outta time today as I had to go shoppin and get me chish and fips for tea on the way home.

                                                  Regards Nick.

                                                      I know what I said a little while ago, BUT . .

The drawer organising finally came to a most satisfactory conclusion at a quarter to one today.

When I last posted about this, I'd finished the actual organising of the tools etc, with the time since preparing, printing and fitting labels.

NOW I can start on preparing photos and content for a new thread.

I will do ASAP but, always a flipping but, I need to replace the fan PSU on my DIY coffee bean roaster that I managed to moer-toe/vrek.

Geoff – It's stopped raining. Had cheese on toast and now enjoying a mug of DIY roasted coffee. Lekker!
