I have a damaged draincock following a derailment.  Has anyone a spare they would be willing to part with or information of a possible supplier.  It is to an LBSC design, but not available from Reeves as it has a 7/32 x 40tpi thread.

As you have a drawing can you not make a replacement?

Thank you Judy. I will see if they would “break” a pack.

Bernard – I have started to have a go at making one and started off by making the “D” shaped taper reamer. I see a problem of making the tapered plug.

Leaving the topside (of my watchmaker’s lathe) set to the same angle as the reamer, I can turn the taper plug, then will either have to set the topside back to zero and turn parallel for the 10Ba thread one end and the square the other end or move over to the Boxford and try to centre it up in the larger chuck. If I choose to set the watch lathe back to zero and bog up the brass plug, I can’t accurately set up the same angle again – Oh dear !

turn the 10ba stub first on 2 or 3 bits then set over and turn the reamer and the tap tapers

Bernard, after about 6 hours of work including about an hour of maths, I made a single draincock. It has stood the Hydraulic test of 1.5 x WP, so see how it performs on the track. Photo, top is the bent one, middle a good one and bottom is the home made one. the black rod is the “D” shaped reamer.

Well done that man and a good job too and I wouldn’t mind betting it all came from the scrap box too!!!

Nice job, it’s so much harder getting tiny parts to work ‘just so’…
