I have a Warco VMC milling machine bought in 2011 the halogen work light bulb has gone again.

If correct it's 24 volts but don't know the watts as have not any information of size.

All labels have gone can someone tell me size please.

Frustrated by the short life of the halogen bulbs and the difficulty in obtaining them , I isolated the 24V supply and substituted a 12V supply from one of the cheap plug in transformers thus allowing the continued use of the existing switch . A 12V LED reflector style lamp plugs straight into the existing lamp socket . A ring of packing holds the slightly smaller diameter lamp in place and still allows the original protective glass and spring clip the be retained . It has worked with no problems for a couple of years ( Until tomorrow !) Brian C

                  Hi Paul

Halogen spotlamps have finally been banned from manufacture. If you can't find old stock, you'll have to fit an LED equivalent, which I did to mine some time ago, like Brian. 24V ones are bit harder to find, but not impossible.

Yes, it's funny how they were allowed to describe them as "energy saving", when in fact their consumption is about 3/4 of a std incandescent bulb. I got sick of changing them and they were so damned expensive. Now the LED ones produce the same output for about 1/6 of the power and last a lot longer.

If you have a look at page 8 of this thread you can see I used a very inexpensive 12v angel eye ring for a light

This is all rather depressing. I still have the original lamp working in mine and the light quality is far better than any LED work light I’ve seen so far. Looks like I’ll have to source a lamp or two in case mine fails.

I bought two packets of these from Ebay it says UK but they come from China for £5.84.

5Pcs 24V G5.3 35W/50W Base Halogen Bulbs Light Lamp Bulb UK

The pins are a bit thicker but can be modified to fit the VMC lamp holder also slightly longer on the bulb glass.

At that price was worth a risk I had a similar one before and it lasted nearly 2 years.

My BL12-24 used to consume 24V 50W halogens bulbs at an alarming, and expensive, rate.

And there was nowhere local where I could obtain replacements, so bought a load from the supplier of the lathe.

Removing the reflector and filing two slots in the rim, with a 5/16" rat tile file, cured the problem. There were ventilation slots at the rear of the lamp, but none, or insufficient, at the front. The bulb merely needed more ventilation to reduce the temperature to an acceptable level. The front glass still gets hot, so there is a lot of radiant heat about.

Can't remember the last time that a lamp failed. (Now that IS asking for trouble!)
