Hello, retired engineer looking for advice.I took the plunge and bought a new warco vmc mill with dro ,in 2018,have now decided to add a drive unit to the x axis.Warco state that the drive unit they supply will bolt straight on the vmc and is also suitable for a bridgeport which to me implies that the lead screw end dia should be 5/8", the leadscrew end dia as supplied on my vmc is 17mm, Does anyone out there have a recently supplied warco vmc mill who is willing to measure the x lead screw right hand side for me many thanks Dek

As you've had no response, I'll tell you what I think.

My VMC mill is slightly older than yours, so I'm unable to answer your question directly. However, if Warco say that the X-axis drive fits straight on, I'd tend to believe them. Mine is an Align unit and it, too, came with a casting for fitment to a Bridgeport. It wasn't used, of course, but the power feed was relatively easy to fit, so long as you observe the end-float requirements and use the enclosed shims accordingly. I'm really glad I got the power feed with my mill – it makes a big difference to the finish, I've found, particularly on long traverses.

I am with John re the improved finish! My Centec mill came with long travel power feed – well worth it – and I am always thinking of fitting power to the y axis (and even the Raglan mill feeds – although the Raglan is very light to operate).

John is spot on with the end float requirement.

I needed to make a spacer for mine some 8 years a go so so too old to help you with the measurement s . Go to the Align web site for details of how to set up the end float .
