TV Volume control

Maybe not a solution to Martin’s mother’s problem, but I bought a set of wireless headphones that plug into the audio sockets in the sky box. The reproduction is really good and I can hear people speaking – even Americans – and the tv speakers still work. Not expensive either…..

SWMBO has the volume set for her, I have it for me and I can go in the kitchen and make a cuppa and still hear the tv perfectly…..sorted. And when I am not using them the batteries are on trickle charge.

I have a pair of wireless headphones that I use but they kill the tv speakers so I can watch tv or use my HiFi without waking my wife but as suggested mum wont wear them, I've tried. Just to make life a bit more difficult Mum has some how lost the amplifier of one of her hearing aids  Whilst my Sister takes Mum shopping brother in law is going to tape over speakers to see how much the sound is reduced.

Mums tv doesnt have hotel mode.

I sympathise, my father is 88 and have similar problems. Like the idea of the speakers on the chair, should be able to limit the sound into the room and your mum should still hear.

Neil, you are so right my mother contracted alzheimer's disease (if that's how it's spelt?) and man was she a worry. Not the place to discuss but I have an idea where you're coming from.

No!!! If you want good, accurate, sound reproduction get a cheap stereo amplifier and a pair of proper HiFi speakers.

I've been finding as my ears get older that it has been difficult to hear dialog on the TV. One problem is the tiny little speakers in the televisions nowadays. Sound bars have equally small speakers. To produce reasonable volume the cone excursion is large and that introduces distortion giving a "muddled" sound. Big speakers are the answer. I have installed an old Sony mini stack system connected to the TV by means of an optical to RCA adaptor off Ebay and use that to feed a pair of Rogers floor standing speakers. The difference is amazing.

Doesn't solve the OPs problem though it can shake the windows!

I am impressed with my Sonos playbar, a definte upgrade on whats Samsung could squeeze into a 40mm thick TV also has the added advantage of wireless connection to my Nas drive and so can play my music collection which is now stored on it. The wireless connection also connects to the internet and so you have access to more radio stations than you could ever need and you can play music from any cloud storage you may have. Control from any tablet or smart phone.
