I was flicking through one of the German model engineering magazines and in the new releases section followed a link to ts-modelldampfmaschinen , they seem to have some nice casting kits for steam, sterling and internal combustion. was just wondering if anyone had used them, I know we have a few members in Germany.

I like the Thomas & Hans IC engines and that steam saw is something a bit different, Google does a reasonable job of translating the pages.

          Thanks Jason

I have often wondered what other countries have to offer. The casual searching of magazine stands etc at continental railway stations and such like never yields anything model engineering wise. I have thought about going to the Karlsruhe show this January to find out what is available. I might still do so but it will be on the spur of the moment.

Machinen im modellbau is the one to look out for, they also do a yearly compilation for about 10 euros that is about 500pages, I get to have a flick through someone elses.

VTH who sell the mag linked above also have quite a range of plans

It would be best to attend the model show at Dortmund this has an entire hall solely dedicated to trains, The events at Karlsruhe I think may be finished last year the show didn’t happen plus the event is much smaller than Dortmund, it would be best to check as it’s a long drive

Is the 5Km of track at Karlsuruhe not enough for you Mark and thats only the 5" gauge, Its certainly 5Km more than I would want thoughsmile p

I am taking the caravan as there is camping on the site. will with luck be steaming around the track. been told by a few members of this site that its very cold inside the buildings. I am looking forward to seeing some german steam engines in action. michael

Michael, I hope you are not too much afraid being near some stainless steel boilers which never had been under the eyes of a boiler inspector… devil

Frank, I have been asked to take my boiler test papers for their man to look at, I think that others will be asked to do the same. From what I have seen on utube there is a lot of electric locos being run inside and a lot of the larger gauge steam locos outside. I like german beer, and also the look of the german locomotives with their red wheels etc. also beats doing nothing during a cold January.michael

Many thanks for the information. I have bookmarked the links and will be following them up when the cold drives me out of the workshop. Also I have to decide whether to go to the Karlsruhe or Dortmund show.

The Germans do produce some lovely work and I've found a few sites that bear closer examination (even though Bing Translator struggles a bit with German technical terms).

I've been looking at this guys work again recently …It may have been posted here before (which may be where I first came across him?) I can't remember now but for anyone who has not seen this guys work – have a look through here, there are lots of interesting ideas & projects:

They do seem to like their brass over on the continent, not much iron about!

These two are another couple who do some nice work, both have some good photos of the build sequence for the majority of their engines
