      Hi Guys

Having just read a post where the author could not decide whether to go into the shop, or listen to an audio book. This prompts me to ask . When in the shop, what do you listen to? Radio ( what station ) CDs, what type of music. Tapes, music or Audio book. I personlly tend to have Radio 4 on myself not really listening to it, but now and again something catches my ear which is interesting. So, what do you listen to?

      best regards

      Dave.

I prefer silence, whether writing or machining, then I can concentrate. I listen to music on the Hi-Fi in the living room, where it can be appreciated properly, not through little tinny speakers, and I listen to Radio 4 in bed. I listen to the Amateur Radio bands when I'm not doing anything else, since it demands my attention to do properly.

          Regards

          Geoff

I don't listen to anything, just get engrossed in what I am doing in the shop, same when I am driving no music or radio, sad really but that's how I am.

I decided to go the audio book route as my back felt as if had been pummeled by some heavy weight boxer.

All I did yesterday was to sort out the Boxford spanner and handle material and then the Excel file clamping jaws that weren't closing onto the file shanks.

Oh, I did take the table off of the machine, but it isn't that heavy.

I have, however, learned to my misery that just turning whilst holding something of weight can throw my back out, but yesterday it was just general aching all over, and perspiring as well.

Getting bl**dy old and big C treatment

I listen to Internet music stations via my 6 year old iPod plugged into a Bose dock, and that's more than loud enough.

Radio4Extra, so I can listen to comedy shows I last heard when I was a lad. Including "Educating Archie", that great mystery of why have a ventriloquist on the radio (it was called the wireless in them days my boy)

After buying a 3.3 metre length of 2 1/4" brass hex bar last week £££££££££ I'm now into heavy metal blush

Seriously I do like audio books but unlike music where you can break off, make a phone call or work a loud machine, with audio books you need continuity.

I tend to listen to these whilst driving or knowing it's going to be a quiet day.

I usually have Radio 4 as background and don't find it affects my concentration. I guess, if heavy metal "bashing" is required, then the Anvil Chorus from Verdi's Il Trovatore would take some "beating"! ( Sorry)

Usually nothing as my mind wanders and i loose concentration, which by the end of the day is pretty thin.

Now i have two toys to play with, i set one running auto and listen for any changes in rhythm so that i know to go and look at it.

I've had a radio/cd player in my workshop for years and have never used it. I think the shelf space could be better used for storage. Colin

I have either radio 4 or 4 extra on in the back ground. Usually via the iPad and I player. I agree with Phil there are some good old programmes. I started to listen to dads army again last week, still laughed even though I almost new the lines off by heart.

I don't have anything in the workshop. One I wouldn't be able to hear it properly when the machines are running, and two I'd find it a serious distraction with safety implications.

Living in France, I listen to Radio 2 or 4 via the netbook and WiFi.

Interesting how often Radio 4 has cropped up in the preceding responses. I wonder if the BBC knows that there may be a correlation between the R4 demographic and men in their workshops.

Bound to catch her out, John Kennedy 1. But her paramour's a heel, so it will be no good her running to him for solace.

I'm enjoying Samuel Pepys's diaries this week: 15 minute doses at the end of Women's Hour, repeated at 10.45pm. He really was a bit of a Jack the Lad.
