Tailstock Die Holder (metric)

Good afternoon,

I have a number of metric dies with an OD of 25mm. For some time I've been using my 1" tailstock die holder with a circular shim. Not ideal, but it does the job.

I've looked for a metric TDH, but without more in-depth searching, haven't found one yet. Yes, I could make one, but at present I have better things to do.

Any suggestions where I might find one?

Yes, I saw those, but I think I'd end up with 4 holders that would never get used. It does look to be a nice set though.

After many years of using a very basic tailstock die holder, I decided to get the imperial and metric set as per Jason's link. Recommend….a great piece of kit in a purpose made wooden box.

Yes I could have made something similar but with so many projects to make on my list and so little time……

Do you have a next-size-up-to-one-inch holder? That is perhaps infrequently used? If so, could you make a much thicker-walled shim and install it semi-permanently with Loctite? Would also need longer screws.

I made this one a while back , that holds all my different dies. Cheap as chips & not a lot of time to do.

Unfortunately not, 1" & 13/16" are the only ones I've got.

A 25mm split die would have room to be expanded in a 1" diestock. I would never use solid dies to produce threads, they are for restoring existing threads.

Die nuts are for restoring threads.

Split dies are simply solid dies that have been split.

I do split solid dies of I need to adjust.

Solid dies will also cut to a consistent tolerance should you have the need such as g6 which is handy on small threads as it's not so easy to measure them accurately and a faff to set them each time you go to use them.

The problem with putting metric dies in an imperial diestock is that they get pushed off to one side by the screws so you need to shim them which is what the OP is wanting to avoid.
