Rob Roy Guide Rod Attachment

Hoping someone can clarify.

I don't see on the Rob Roy plans how the guide bars attach to the guide bar plate. They are attached to the cylinder cover, but seem to just rest in slots in the guide rod plate, held in by the width of the cross head. Is this sufficient?

They just sit in the cutouts in the plate. The main forces are up and down depending whether you are driving or coasting
