      Dear all

Forgive me for going over possibly old ground, but I am not sure what the outcome was.

Warco have been promising a QCTP for my WM180 for ages now, and it still seems a long way off.

As far as I can see, I can buy a generic QCTP and either mill out the circular space in it's base, or mill off the raised circular section on top of the compound rest.

Any thoughts as my best route?

      Regards, Kevin

          Hi Kevin
Had similar issue with my WM 250, I had a Dickson clone QCTP – 'Bison' – 0, from previous machine. I machined off the boss from the compound slide as the Bison was hardened, made a new locking bolt to fit… hunky dory. I scraped the top of the compound to clean up & ensure maximum contact area for the base of the QCTP, I also drilled 2 locating holes, at 90* in the compound slide to suit the Bison which has an anti rotation pin fitted, simple but effective…

I also had to make a new gib strip for the compound slide as the original strip was nothing more than a piece of crap MS plate so check yours …

          Replacement brass gib strip…

Replaced one of the gib adjusting / locking bolts with home made locking screw…

            Hi Kevin,

I went the other route you mentioned for my WM-180 and bored out the center hole of a generic QCTP. I reground a snapped carbide endmill to fit in a cross-drilled roundbar and used that for the bore (mounted in my milling machine). The hardest part was setting the correct depth of cut so that the hole ended up a close fit to the post.

I initially tried with an HSS bit but it wouldn't touch the hard material.

            Ed.

I fitted an AXA 100 (Aloris Clone) to my WM250 and had to remove the raised section of the top-slide as the wedge style AXA cannot be bored out. ARC do an *** AXA 000 *** which is a bit smaller and probably right for your WM180, check the centre height / tool height to be sure. Details of how I did mine ***HERE *** If you do go for this type of toolpost don't buy a set but get the toolpost and some standard holders. The holders in the sets are not all useful!

Many thanks all of you. Time to buy a QCTP then!!
