Having some brilliant designers and having perused lathes, locomotives and dividing heads I have something different.

I have three hedgehogs who visit my little feeding station nearly every night, (I have a trail camera) regrettably we have a bully hedgehog, a shy hedgehog and a greedy hedgehog, this means if either the bully or the greedy one arrive first there is nothing left for the shy one. Can anybody come up with a system of allowing food, they are small pellets about 6mm I'm diameter and quite dry, to drop when a hedgehog visits the box so that all may feed.

I would willingly build another box but can not think of a hopper design triggered by a hedgehog. They are quite heavy and would set off a tread plate but easy on the electrics please. I am not very well up on them.

What about spreading the food about so one hog can't, ahem, hog it all?

Or put out so much even the greedy one can't eat it all? We put out all the cat food our 4 cats turn their noses up at, and it's shared between a local fox and the hedgehogs. No problem with rats taking it – the ones round us seem pretty much 100% vegetarian, and any that get close enough to the bowls quickly get dealt with by the youngest cat.He hunts rats with body length up to 8" and brings much of the remains back. Sometimes into the living room.

We had a feral cat many years ago, who lived in a little house I made for him near the back door. Once we heard the cat bowl clinking and startled a hedgehog. It then ran through the feral cat's house, over the sleeping cat. He then emerged wide eyed & confused as if to say 'What just happened?'

Just a suggestion, I also keep Koi Carp as well as masquerading as a model engineer, for feeding fish regularly when you can’t be there to do it you can get fish feeders which will dispense set quantities of pelleted fish food at intervals that you can set. If set up with hedgehog pellets it could dispense at set times through the night and therefore the spread of feeding times could ensure that perhaps all comers could be satisfied. Shouldn’t be difficult to set up to feed the hedgehogs instead of fish, the feeders are available via the internet.
