I seem to have come to the end of my stock of One Man and His Lathe articles, so unless anyone thinks I have missed their article or can get me one one in the near future, it may have drawn gently to a close!

But would anyone like to write me a 'One Man (or Woman) and His/Her Mill' article? Or even on any other much loved workshop machine?

Such articles should follow the same format, about four pages with information on the machine and what the author has done with it. More of a story format than most articles.

Neil, take a peek at the thread title. You need an ‘e’

Rather than restrict to one type of machine (a lathe, a mill), how about opening the scope right up and allow details of any machine to be written about? There will need to be a few rules so that you are not flooded with a dozen stories about people's CNC conversions of a drill mill, so I would suggest

              • The item has to be a major item of workshop equipment in regular use
              • Must preferably be either a brand/ model of machine that readers may not be familiar with; a good example of a restored or even still going machine no longer in production or a current model machine that has been modified to improve its performance
              • Used in a way that takes advantage of the features of the machine
              • And as with the lathe series, written to show the owner's history/ connection with the machine

As you can see, reading about a bog standard machine in current production is something I don't find at all interesting, but to see some of the more unusual machines scattered around the country and/ or world could be fascinating

I did add: "Or even on any other much loved workshop machine?" so I very much agree with that

I'm not so nervous about popular machines, obviously I don't want the same ones to come up over and again, but most readers will only be familiar with using one or two machines and it doesn't do any harm to chase away some of the myths around some popular machines (old and new) by showing their capabilities.
