Hi everyone

I'm looking for advice and help please, I'm new to milling having bought a Ajax 8 horizontal mill a few months ago. The only vice i have is far to big and i could do with a lower profile one. Any cutter i have over 3" of which I have only 2 is useless to me as I can not lower the table enough to get it under the larger vice and cutters. Would anyone advice where I could pick up a inexpensive but good vice please??

Just a thought but what about using toe clamps to fix the work directly to the table? If not then look at the usual suspects like Arceurotrade, Chronos, Warco and RDG etc for a vice.

If clearance is an issue, consider a low profile two piece vice ?

I've seen them available on the Chronos tools site.

I prefer the Kurt vise or a clone of it. There will be no jaw lift to contend with. You can use stepped jaw plates instead of fiddling with parallels. If you buy one with a swivel base take the base off and store it until you really need it.
