Got an e-mail back from Pocketmags sent at 6.06 this morning saying they have sorted ME and just tried it and all OK, can any of the MEW subscribers check theirs.

is it really this difficult to sort this out????

Over a bank holiday, yes I'm afraid it is difficult.

Why should we have to keep contacting pocket mags?

Because it appears they do have customer support over the bank holiday although i have not been able to contact the main 'technical team'.

Why not contact them, after all you have our details.

          I have.

Both ME and MEW are now downloading OK.

              Thanks for chasing Neil.

(No response to my email to PocketMags though)

Australia calling, i am unable to down load MEW 250 unless i pay for it.

I have never had so much drama with one company, needs to be looked at, there are other options out there that would do a much better job.

have Novembers issue half down loaded but there is no option to restart ( was in London at the time) when this occurred, not the first time this has occurred with pocket mags.

any ways things can only get better

                Hello Gassa,

Can you email me : neil.wyatt@mytimemedia.com

                Thanks

Just had a reply from Pocketmags. They say the issue has been restored. My iPad says no. So, I've emailed them, again.

It's taken a while to sort this as (just as suspected) two different teams have been working on the issue. Here's a message we have just had:

"Sorry, I have just spoken with another colleague who was managing the fulfillment during the holiday, I have just been told that they had to re-fulfill some issues that weren't fulfilled correctly. This has been done yesterday and this morning, so everything it should be fine.

Apologies for the inconvenience, everything should be ok for the future issues."

Sorry to everyone who had issues with this, it should now be sorted, although I will admit to not having a clue what the real problem was.

Neil, be interesting to find out why John Hinkley is still having problems a couple of hours after PM sent that e-mail?

Anybody else still got a problem?

I'm sorted, now. Pocketmags asked me to uninstall the app and re-install it. That fixed the problem, but had the side-effect of deleting all the previously downloaded issues! Freed up some memory, though.

                                              Hello Graham,

I think you emailed me recently? I'm not sure which flash players work best with the archive; I use Adobe with Firefox and no problems, but I understand you wish to use an alternative.

Can anyone else suggest an alternative firefox plugin that works well with the archive? It would be useful to know what to recommend as I get the occasional query like Graham's.

I kind of doubt that you'll find one that's compatible enough.

I don't know what Graham's reasons are for not using the Adobe plugin but the usual one is because of security concerns – where many people decline to use it at all. That seems like throwing the baby out with the bathwater to me.

Any exploit through Flash is going to come from the specific website being viewed. It's better, imo, to install Flash but only allow it to be used on specific, trusted websites …. I'm sure the ME website falls into that category and there are many others. Firefox (and presumably other browsers) allows you to do just that – to set the plugin to ask you before running on a webpage. At that point you can say "no"; or allow it to run just that time; or allow it for that website any time (this is suitable for the ME site for example).

It's anyone's prerogative, of course, simply not to install the Flash plugin if they feel that's the easier way but the price they pay is that some web pages, or whole sites, simply won't be available to them. Nor do alternative plugins necessarily improve matters. Flash (on the website) requires a script to be run on the user's machine. Any time that happens there is a risk whether it's the Adobe plugin or any surrogate.
