I am sorry to rain on your parade MDRO but I purchased 1000 mm and 250 mm optical scales plus readout from Vevor 3 years ago for about £110.
I shortened the 1000 mm scale to about 700mm to suit my mill X travel and it’s been fine.
I do have an MDRO embedded Myford cross-slide readout installed and that has also been fine.
