You are making a really nice job of that Phil. Now you've got me thinking what could have I done differently

        Pete,

Things can always be done differently. The real difference between you and I is that you have reached the finishing line which is a huge achievement. I am still on the first lap moving very slowly.

For example, I started the tender first because I thought there was a significant risk of me literally running out of steam on the engine. I am managing to do an average of about 6 hours per week. I guess this means that it will take 2 years if there is about 600 hours worth of work.

The chassis virtually complete – just the axles and couplings to be machined.

Been a while since ive done anything on mine (in fact done anything) due to a bout of ill health but im hopeing to get back onto the job soon

(quick note to Admin…there seems to be a layout problem with page 3 of this thread as the posts are running off to the right of the screen and adverts are overlayed on top which is making it difficult to read the posts.)

Decided to order the castings and guess what…..GLR went into liquidation in december

Looks like I will never finish it now.

Not so clear on this shot but one of the wheel castings had a defect in the bore. One option was to bore the defect out and add a bush. The second option was to bore most of the defect out and adjust the axle parts. I took the second option.

I took the first option, bored it out and fitted a bush. I used a set of soft jaws machined to suit the driving wheels and just managed to fit the wheels on a conquest super lathe, 80mm chuck.
