In my drawers

Well as I described in my welcome post I am mainly a woodworker who wants to get into model engineering and as of yet do not have any machines for metalworking but at some time in the future wish to buy.

Anyway i think I may have started collecting before I realized this could happen as I was sorting out my drawer unit in the workshop and found this little lot.

Do you think I am on the right track well if yes then I needed something to store the measuring bits and pieces in so have purchase this little box for the nice little sum of £70.

Am I heading for a very slippery and expensive slope

Slippery slope maybe, (well yes!) You have a useful collection put together so far and that looks a lovely box for £70. As a woodworker could you make it for that?

As someone said recently on another post, Having a hobby is a pleasant way of spending your money. And, its a great hobby. I hope you enjoy it.

Yes,indeed you are !!! Be warned,there is NO way back !!!

However,having said that,you may find that you quite enjoy sliding down the slope ! Expensive ? Maybe,but then,how long is a piece of string ? How much have I spent since I first stood on the top of the slope ?

Dont even ask !!,I,m afraid to but I regard it as money well spent/wasted,take your choice !.

Jump in and dont look back as you slide further and further down the slope until there is no hope of getting back up,but guess what ? at that point you wont want to ! How do I know ? Ask me !

Been there , done that ,bought the lathe/mill/drill bandsaw ——————and a whole heap of other stuff. Do I need it ? of course not ! Do I want it,do I enjoy it ? You bet !

Some people consider people like us to be nuts [not quite the full shilling],but you get used to it.

Well I do have many other tools but mainly for woodworking 2 bandsaws 2 lathes and many more i will not be giving up my woodwork, I will however be dividing the workshop up into two sections each end for the respected hobby.

 

The clamps at the front need cleaning before putting away for the time being

Seen this with many woodturners have more tools than they ever use some just sitting on the rack never being used.

Hang about I have a set of hand threading tools that I still have not used yet OK I may be one of those so why change a habit of a lifetime

It has to be realized that just because a tool has sat there and not been used, that it will not be. Many a time on a Saturday night My bacon has been saved by a Plan C tool. You cannot save everything but it is fun trying and a big chest swelling when it works. I have a friend that does not have any plan B's and it makes trouble scrambling around trying to find some one to help.

I wonder if there is a proper name for tool addiction? I am sure there are plenty of slang expressions. I blame eBay for my problem, at one time lots of very nice tools used to be on eBay at too good to miss prices and they begged me to give them a home. I am largely over the problem now and have visited tool shops and not made a purchase in recent times. I may possibly attempt a rationalisation of my collection as building an extension to the workshop just filled up with more stuff. Having the right tool is useful if you know where it is, unhappily I often don't which wastes a lot of time and is frustrating. At the moment I blame the heat for dodging the grand sort out, I expect it will be too wet or cold next.

You have a good selection of useful tools. Maybe larger size mics, (or maybe a good vernier or digital calliper?) to be added later.

You have a bargain for £70.  Just the chest, new, would cost over £100!

All that you need now is a lathe, (a little larger and with more facilities than you at first think) and you are set for HOURS of enjoyment.

Then you will expand your horizons and feel the need for either a Mill or a Bandsaw. You will need a Bench Grinder pretty soon, if you have not already got one.

Ultimately, the dream shop would include cylindrical and surface grinders, and even a shaper, then perhaps 3D printing? Oh to dream, IF ONLY!

Like eating an elephant, one bite at a time, aided by the advice that always so freely offered on here.
