It is an adjustable backplate. Basically a plate on a backplate so the position of the plate can be moved to centre the chuck. Adds to the overhang of course.

Looks like it converts your ordinary chuck into a Grip-Tru, at a fraction of the cost of a Grip-Tru chuck. Good idea.

I think that might be a little harsh, Bazyle

The subject reference, and the question, are both explicit.

It seems reasonable to assume that those in the target group of 'advisors' [i.e. those with experience of the kit] would recognise the number. … Perhaps the style was intended as a filter.

I had one years ago and it worked very well apart from one thing. There were three adjusting screws at the periphery and this made adjustment a little fiddly. Four screws would have been much better, then it would be like adjusting a 4 jaw chuck. I can't remember if the location of the screws holding the chuck to the backplate made this impossible.

I have two of them and they work very well indeed, A poor man's Griptru at a fraction of the price. Not as easy to adjust as a Griptru, but not difficult when you get the hang of it.

Thank you for your replies, I had never come across anything like them before, just goes to show no matter how old you are there is always something new.
